The Politics of Intermedial Connectivity. 8th Biennial Conference of the International Society for Intermedial Studies (Brussel/Bruxelles)

We are pleased to announce that the 8th Biennial Conference of the International Society for Intermedial Studies (ISIS) will be organised at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, 27-29 May 2026.

"The Politics of Intermedial Connectivity” invites scholars to explore how media interactions shape and reflect power, identity, and cultural exchange. The event seeks contributions that link intermedial studies with fields such as postcolonial, feminist, queer, critical race, migration, dis/ability, and intersectional studies. Focusing on intermediality’s role in connecting media across cultures, histories, and materials, the conference aims to advance critical discussions on how media circulation and transformation engage with socio-political questions in today’s mobile and interconnected world.

Keynote speakers:

Mieke Bal (Universiteit van Amsterdam, NL)

Patrick Jagoda (University of Chicago, US)

Birgit Neumann (Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf, DE)
