Seminar for Contemporary Women's Writing in French:

This new seminar series is based at the Institute of Romance Studies, University of London, Senate House, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HU, but there is at least one regional meeting per year.

The aim of the Seminar is to provide an ongoing forum for the discussion and promotion of a wide range of contemporary writing by women. The main focus is on new and recent texts from either metropolitan France or elsewhere, but new approaches to any post-war women's writing in French are also welcome.

Meetings will be held 3-4 times per year; at least one meeting per year will take place at an institution outside London. The format for meetings is flexible and may include: reading group sessions for new texts; round-table discussions; formal papers; workshops. Offers of participation and suggestions for other formats are always welcome.

The seminar is open to all students, researchers and teachers interested in contemporary women's writing in French and it is expected that it will lead to both national and international collaborative research projects and journal and book publications.

The inaugural meeting was held on 21st October 2000 at the Institute of Romance Studies. Dates for 2001 are as follows:

Saturday, 31 March 2001 : University of Leeds, Department of French, 2.30-4.30 p.m., room 134
Saturday, 22 September 2001 : Institute of Romance Studies, University of London, 2.30-4.30 p.m., room 349
