The Biennial Postcolonial Studies Association (PSA) Postgraduate and Early Career Conference

24-25 July 2014

University of York, UK

Keynote speakers:

  • Professor Jennifer Wenzel (University of Michigan)
  • Dr Anthony Carrigan (University of Leeds)
  • Dr Sharae Deckard (University College Dublin)

This interdisciplinary two-day conference will explore urgent questions surrounding the roles and concept of resources within the postcolonial world and capitalist world-system.

We will examine the deep-rooted entanglement of resources such as land, water, oil and food with capitalism's cycles of accumulation, expansion, and crisis, looking at the ways in which resources remain highly sensitive points of contestation and resistance. At the same time, we will discuss recent developments in Science and Technology Studies and Ecocriticism, which have problematised the ideas of 'nature' and the 'natural', showing that resources are becoming as hard to pin down epistemologically as they increasingly are to extract.

Registration for the conference is now available through Eventbrite, please see our website for further details.
