The research groups Glossa, GETLIHC, and TRACTE, in collaboration with the Verdaguer Chair of Literary Studies at the University of Vic–Central University of Catalonia, are happy to announce the I Vic Noir Congress: Literature and Audiovisual Media. This event aims to join the academic study of the noir genre alongside successful initiatives such as the twenty editions of the Congress of Noir Literature and Cinema at the University of Salamanca (2003–2023) or the Tenerife Noir International Seminar on Research in Noir Fiction, among others.

Noir fiction is a widely popular literary genre worldwide, as evidenced by library loan figures, sales at fairs and bookstores, and the large number of specialized festivals across the territory. It is therefore not surprising that academia is interested in this phenomenon and seeks to study it. The various perspectives we aim to present are designed to explore all facets, proving that popular literature is rich in all cultural aspects. The main goal of the congress is to promote the academic study of the noir and crime fiction and popular narratives, as well as the subgenres derived from it, following a rigorous approach to their knowledge and analysis at both the Catalan and international levels. We believe this congress will provide an opportunity for researchers and professionals to share their findings and establish a strong research network. To achieve this, an international scientific committee has been formed to attract national and international experts in the field, making this congress a notable meeting point within the study and dissemination of this literary genre.
