Où se trouve lafrontière entre deux langues ?
Comment concevoiret traverser cette limite ?
Néd'une exigence et d'un besoin de rapprochement entre deux pensées contiguës etpourtant relativement désunies, « Limit(e) Beckett » a pourobjectif de décloisonner deux univers critiques – anglophone et francophone –par le biais d'un site internet consacré à la publication d'une revueélectronique semestrielle.
Tout comme la limite est d'abord un chemin detraverse (du latin limes), soit un lieu de passage,il s'agit ici d'ouvrir un espace de dialogue, susceptible d'interroger etd'explorer les territoires beckettiens à la fois linguistiques et culturels,mais aussi de conjuguer différentes approches et de mettre en relation deschercheurs – anglophones et francophones, jeunes et confirmés – en offrant unevisibilité à leurs écrits critiques, grâce à ces publications.
Anotre tour, dans le sillage de Samuel Beckett lui-même, nous nous efforceronsde nous placer au seuil de deux espaces de pensée, afin de travailler la limit(e) et de porter, tant sur l'oeuvre que sur la critique beckettiennes, unregard oblique, source féconde de nouvelles lectures possibles.
A cet effet, nous avons mis en place un conseiléditorial et un conseil scientifique constitué d'éminents chercheursbeckettiens sur la scène internationale, qui ont accepté d'apporter leursoutien à ce projet novateur : Linda Ben-Zvi, Mary Bryden, Bruno Clément, GabrieleFrasca, Andrew Gibson, Evelyne Grossman, Denis Guénoun, Sjef Houppermans, CarlaLocatelli, Angela Moorjani, Mark Nixon, Jean-Michel Rabaté, Dirk Van Hulle.

Call for Papers for theZero issue of Limit(e) Beckett

What demarcates one language from another?
How are we to conceive of and cross over suchlimits?
Born of the need to draw together two adjacentyet relatively disconnected ways of thinking, Limit(e) Beckett aims to break down the barriersbetween the anglophone and francophone critical universes.
On the example of a limit, from the Latin limes, a borderline between fields and apassageway, our aim is to open a space for dialogue where, within Beckettstudies, various territories, both linguistic and cultural, can be explored anddifferent approaches combined. The hope is that by offering them a place toshowcase their publications, Limite(e) will bring researchers – whether anglophone orfrancophone, young or established – into increased contact with one another.
Following in the footsteps ofBeckett himself, we endeavour to place ourselves on the threshold of two zonesof thought, and in testing the limit(e) of each and looking obliquely at both Beckett'soeuvre and Beckett scholarship, to open up spaces for new readings.
To this end, we have set up aneditorial board and an advisory council made up of eminent Beckett scholarsfrom the international scene, who have agreed to lend their support to thispioneering project: Linda Ben-Zvi, Mary Bryden, Bruno Clément, Gabriele Frasca,Andrew Gibson, Evelyne Grossman, Denis Guénoun, Sjef Houppermans, CarlaLocatelli, Angela Moorjani, Mark Nixon, Jean-Michel Rabaté, Dirk Van Hulle.
The following is a list (by no meansexhaustive) of themes on which we invite papers:
1. Thecurrent situation in francophone and anglophone Beckett research (with pointsof agreement and divergencies)
2. Bilingualism,in relation to translation as the site of passage from one language to another
3. Interconnectionsbetween literature and philosophy
4. Literatureand psychoanalysis
5. Literatureand other artistic media, for example, painting, music, visual arts
6. Comparativeliterature (Beckett and other authors)
7. Literatureand science
8. Otherthemes connected with the notion of ‘limit' in Beckett's work, such aspassages, thresholds, borders, edges, and contours.

Limit/e Beckett is an international electronicjournal, published by a team of Beckett doctoral candidates in partnership withtwo universities: Paris IV-Sorbonne and Paris VII-Denis Diderot.
