Language and culture have long played a central role in the Republican ideology and the construction of French nationalism. In our dominated by modern communications and ubiquitous era of visual culture, language-as practice, discourse and ideology and culture in the broadest sense have become powerful tools to generate political change and transformation of practices cultural, social, political, economic and institutional. Emphasis on language and culture, this interdisciplinary conference ASMCF seeks to understand how language, discourse and culture play an important role in identifying, challenging the order or societal transformations. Its wider theoretical scope is to examine and conceptualize how language and culture are politicized and used by individuals or groups in contemporary French society. Contributions dealing with any historical or theoretical dimension of the relationship between language, culture and power are particularly welcome. Guest speakers include Stéphane Beaud, Eric Fassin and Max Silverman (Peter Morris reading). 

This symposium will feature contributions (in English or French) to a maximum of 20 minutes, based on the themes of reflection following (not exhaustive):

The conference organizers invite you to submit proposals for individual papers or panels to form two or three papers organized around a common theme. Communicators are invited to be inspired by the range of disciplines reflecting the interests of the ASMCF. The proposals will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee. We especially will accept proposals from postgraduate students. 

Proposals may be submitted in French or English. The conference will result in one or more peer-reviewed publications.
