Job Description:

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: The Department of World Languages and Cultures in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of French. This faculty position will teach language and culture courses at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum with the ability to teach a combination of language (all levels), composition, and upper-level courses in French and/or Francophone culture, literature, or civilization.

The successful candidate will have an interest in teaching courses and commitment to research in French and/or Francophone cultural studies; an interest in teaching interdisciplinary courses in English; a commitment to strengthening the French Program (including active recruitment of French majors and minors); and the desire to participate actively in department-wide initiatives.

 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in French or a related discipline by time of appointment
  • Near-native proficiency in French and English
  • Demonstrated commitment to developing an active research agenda in pre-20th century French or Francophone studies which will diversify current faculty members' research and teaching interests and broaden course offerings in French and/or Francophone cultural studies
  • Record of excellence in teaching French

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to participate actively in undergraduate curriculum in Languages and Cultures for Professions program
  • Interest in teaching interdisciplinary courses in international studies or global studies
  • Ability and interest in teaching on-line and/or blended courses
  • Commitment to undergraduate student recruitment and retention
  • Demonstrated commitment to academic service
  • Proven ability to work with diverse populations of students, faculty, and staff
