Assistant or Associate Professor of French (Detroit)

Wayne State University, Dept. of Romance Languages and Literatures, pending
final authorization, invites applications for the position of Assistant or
Associate Professor of French, in Quebec Studies, French Film Studies,
and/or Twentieth-Century Cultural Studies, beginning fall, 2001. WSU, one
of the leading urban research universities in the United States (designated
a Carnegie Doctoral/Research University-Extensive Institution), is located
in downtown Detroit, and serves a diverse student population. The
Department has 16 full-time faculty in professorial ranks and 4 full-time
Lecturers. and offers BA and MA degrees in French, Italian, and Spanish,
the Ph.D. degree in Modern Languages, and the Masters of Arts in Language
Learning.

The successful candidate should be able to articulate a multicultural
emphasis in teaching and research, with specialization in Quebec studies
required, with research and teaching interests in French film studies
and/or twentieth-century cultural studies strongly desired. Ability to
teach phonetics and advanced language-composition courses strongly
preferred. Expected to teach language courses at all levels and to offer
occasional courses in the Canadian Studies program. Evidence of proven
commitment to research required for both ranks. Ph.D. in hand required by
start of contract 8/2001. Prior post-secondary teaching experience and
native or near-native fluency in French required. We especially encourage
applications from those in underrepresented categories including minorities
and women. We will be interviewing at the MLA Convention in Washington DC.
