University of Bristol: Chair of French

The University seeks to appoint an exceptional scholar to a Chair of French by 1 September 2007 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Department of French enjoys an outstanding reputation and has maintained a strong intake of highly qualified and well-motivated applicants for its undergraduate courses. In seeking to make an appointment to this Chair the University is reaffirming its commitment to international excellence in the field of modern languages. The successful candidate will have an established international reputation in research and publication, and will show the potential to maintain and further enhance this reputation. He or she will make a key contribution to the standing of French at Bristol as a centre of excellence in teaching and research. As the University is anxious to attract the very best candidate, applicants are welcomed from all fields of French studies scholarship. Appointment to this Chair offers a rare opportunity for a person with vision and energy to provide research leadership within a successful department, and to play a key role in current developments within the School of Modern Languages, the Faculty of Arts and the University.
