SESSION NAME: Shakespeare and Violence
What purpose(s) does the violence portrayed in Shakespeare's drama and
poetry serve? Is it purely conventional? What is the relationship between
these texts and the cultural/historical influences prevalent during their
production? This session welcomes papers exploring representations of
violence in Shakespeare's work and/or their relationship to Early Modern
society.
Complete papers (no longer than 20 minutes) or 500-word abstracts,
including a cover page with the author's full home mailing address, home
phone number, and e-mail address, should be submitted no later than JUNE 15.
