Le Tartuffe ou l’Imposteur non è soltanto uno dei testi più rappresentativi della carriera di Molière: grazie ad una drammaturgia esemplare, l’ipocrita che dà il nome alla pièce diventa una delle più potenti personificazioni del mestiere stesso dell’uomo di teatro. Il volume contiene, oltre ad una nuova traduzione della commedia, un saggio, Dentro il testo, in cui vengono indagate le strutture che veicolano la canonicità dell’opera verso quel contenitore vuoto incarnato dallo sfuggente e polimorfo Tartufo. Nel saggio finale si traccia invece la storia della fortuna scenica dell’opera, dalla sua censura fino alle più recenti – e sempre discusse – messinscena francesi e italiane. Il volume si chiude con alcuni appunti relativi alla ricezione del Tartuffe in Inghilterra, Germania e Russia. In appendice, il lettore troverà la riproduzione di qualche pagina del copione di Franco Parenti, che tradusse Il Tartufo per una fortunata rappresentazione agli inizi degli anni Ottanta.
Le Tartuffe ou l’Imposteur is not only one of the most important comedies in Molière’s career; thanks to the exemplary nature of its dramaturgic structure, the hypocrite who gives his name to the play becomes the highest incarnation of the actor’s art. Together with a new translation of the play, this volume contains the essay Inside the text, where the textual devices shaping the canonical structure are analysed according to that empty container embodied by the ambiguous and many-sided Tartuffe. The second essay focuses on the reception of the play on stage, from the ban to the most recent – and always debated – representations in France and Italy. Scattered notes on popular productions of Le Tartuffe in England, on German soil and Russia are offered at the end. The appendix presents the reproduction of some pages from Franco Parenti’s script: he translated Le Tartuffe for a successful production at the beginning of the 1980s.
