Women, Marriage & Family



Keynote speaker:
Professor Patricia Mainardi, a leading authority on 19th- century European art, a pioneering women’s studies professor, author of Husbands, Wives, and Lovers: Marriage and Its Discontents in Nineteenth-Century France (Yale University Press, 2003).

This interdisciplinary conference seeks to explore the place and role of women in marriage and the family in both local and global settings. Conference organizers seek papers, panels, and creative projects that address topics such as

- “Un-veiling” the marriage: women, marriage, and Islam in the European Union

- Women as Mothers,

- Women and Child-rearing

- Women as Daughters, Sisters, Grandmothers

- Evolution of Roles and Authority in the Family

- Family and Economic and Cultural Issues
