in German Literature, Literary Theory and thePhilosophy of Literature

Why Kafka? On the Concepts of‘Singularity' and ‘Universality' in the Philosophical Reception of his Work

The project will explore theways in which the literary dimension of Kafka's work relates the singular andthe universal. The research project will pursue this goal through an analysisof key 20th-century philosophical works that have interrogatedKafka's work.

Job description:

Themain task of this fellowship consists of conducting research that will resultin the writing of a doctoral dissertation within the framework described above.Occasional participation in the organization of research activities within thecontext of the project or within the Departments of Literature as well asPhilosophy.

Profile and requirements:

• MAin Literary Studies and/or Philosophy
• Excellentstudy results and writing skills

• Interestand enthusiasm for research in literature, literary theory, and philosophy

• Independentspirit and research abilities

• Goodknowledge of German, English, and French

We offer:

A four-year doctoralfellowship starting on 1 October 2011, contingent upon a positiveevaluation after two years.
