"On imagination and fiction"
Abstract : Imagination plays an essential role in our engagement with fiction. Professor Currie will offer a theory about what this kind of imagining is. He will consider the view of some that engagement with fiction does not require empathy with fictional characters. He will argue that this is wrong, using as an example the novel The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, by Anne Brontë. He will also offer a theory about what empathy is.
