Christian Prigent est poète, romancier et critique littéraire. Il fonde au tournant des années 1970, l’importante revue TXT, revue proche du textualisme de Tel Quel qui s’intéresse aux figures clefs de l’avant-garde européenne (Khlebnikov, Joyce, Artaud, Queneau, Denis Roche, Verheggen). Auteur de plus d’une vingtaine d’ouvrages publiés chez P.O.L parmi lesquels on peut compter, Power/Powder (1977), Commencement (1989), Écrit au couteau (1993), Une phrase pour ma mère (1996) ou plus récemment, Les Enfance Chino (2013), son écriture provocatrice et rageuse, jouant sur l’hybridité, le bégaiement et la distorsion entreprend de « débarrasser la poésie de tout ce qui n’est pas essentiellement la poésie » afin de trouver « un langage » afin de faire entendre « le chromo du monde » (Céline). Le tout à travers la violence charnelle, un certain goût pour les phrasés carnavalesques, l’obscène, le porno et l’humour. Prigent est également connu pour ses nombreux essais sur des auteurs jugés difficiles et limites (Roche, Stein, Cummings, Novarina, Tarkos) dont témoigne la récente réédition corrigée et complétée de La Langue et ses monstres (2014). Pour tenter de parler cette langue monstre qui coupe le souffle et brise les rythmes institués, Prigent sera accompagné de l’actrice Vanda Benes.
Invités à Trinity College (Cambridge) dans le cadre des Choiseul-Praslin Lectures 2015, ils liront, parleront de leurs projets d’écriture et répondront aux questions.

Christian Prigent is a poet, novelist and literary critic. In the early 1970s he founded the influential journal TXT, a journal whose critical approach might be compared to the textualism of Tel Quel and which focused on the work of key figures of European avant-garde movements (Khlebnikov, Joyce, Artaud, Queneau, Denis Roche, Verheggen). Author of more than two dozen workers published by P.O.L, including Power/Powder (1977), Commencement (1989), Écrit au couteau (1993), Une phrase pour ma mère (1996) and the more recent work Les Enfance Chino (2013), Prigent’s fiery and provocative writings seek to ‘rid poetry of everything that is not in essence poetry’ by playing on the effects of hybridity, stammering and distortion in the search for a ‘language’ capable of portraying what Céline called the 'le chromo du monde'. He achieves this through a blend of physical violence, a taste for somewhat carnivalesque cadences, obscenity, pornography, and humour. Prigent is also known for his numerous essays on writers often considered challenging or who are seen as pushing the limits of writing (Roche, Stein, Cummings, Novarina, Tarkos), as evidences the recent republication, with corrections and additions, of La Langue et ses monstres (2014). In an attempt to bring to life this monstrous and breath-taking language that shatters established patterns, Prigent will be joined by actress Vanda Benes.
Invited to Trinity College, Cambridge as part of the Choiseul-Praslin lecture series 2015, they will read their texts, speak about their writing projects and answer any questions you might have.
