Dante and the Knowledge of His Time (on the 750th Anniversary of the Birth of Dante Alighieri)

December 10, 2015

The workshop offers seven different perspectives on Dante: from his formation in Florence to the new poetics of the Vita nova; from the foundation of a new science in the Convivio and the De vulgari eloquentia to Dante’s dialogue with Brunetto Latini and Arnaut Daniel in the Commedia; from the hermeneutics of Dante’s otherworldly realms to Botticelli’s illustrations of the poem.

By inviting scholars to discuss Dante’s oeuvre in its historical, philosophical, and literary contexts, the Freie Universität wishes to mark the 750th anniversary of the birth of Dante Alighieri.
