2017 marks the 150th anniversary of the death of Charles Baudelaire. To commemorate this landmark, the editors of French Studies (Emma Cayley, Russell Goulbourne, Tim Unwin) and of its sister publication French Studies Bulletin (Jim Simpson) have put together a virtual issue that makes many of our previously published items on Baudelaire freely accessible for a time on the OUP website. You will find the virtual issue, which brings together eleven articles from the journal and forty shorter pieces from the bulletin, at the following URL:

Our two publications have since the earliest days been central in promoting scholarship on Baudelaire, and together they offer a unique record of shifting perceptions of his work. The items here span the last fifty years, and have been written by many of the most familiar names in and around Baudelaire studies. Many of the articles in French Studies Bulletin come in the form of rejoinders or responses to previous items, or to articles in the journal.

We are not able to list the very large number of book reviews published over the years in French Studies. Most of these can, however, be found by entering the search term ‘Baudelaire’ on the journal’s home page at https://academic.oup.com/fs.

We hope that you will find the virtual issue a helpful and useful resource.
