“One Tercet, One Image”

In collaboration with the SISD – Seminario Internazionale di Studi Danteschi and ISFiDa – Institut d’Estudis Filològics Dantescs i Digitals Avançats, the journal Theory and Criticism of Literature and Arts launches a Call for Papers for a special issue devoted to the relationship between Dante’s Divine Comedy and the European visual tradition.

The issue is based on the international project One Tercet, One Image, which combines short video contributions and peer-reviewed articles.

Scholars are invited to submit proposals including:

a video contribution (10–15 minutes)
a written article (5,000–10,000 words)
Both components must focus on a tercet from the Commedia, analysed in relation to a significant image.

Project format

Videos will be recorded online (Zoom) and will follow a standardised format, as in the series available at:
https://www.isfida.eu/unaterzina

Each contribution will include:

reading of the tercet
brief contextualisation
interpretative analysis
discussion of the image
concise conclusion
Videos will be published online prior to the volume.

Scope

Contributions should offer historically grounded analyses of the relationship between Dante’s text and visual culture, from the Middle Ages to the present (manuscripts, painting, sculpture, architecture, modern and contemporary reinterpretations).
