Women, Architecture, and Patronage in Early Modern France

Popular notions about architectural history in France seem predicated on the idea that only men were involved in architectural patronage. The fact is, however, that women, too, contributed to a large extent to the architectural landscape of France. For this panel, we invite papers that address female architectural patronage. Among other topics, papers may focus on: direct or indirect involvement of women patrons, choices made in exterior and interior spaces, the uses of decorative arts, the relationship with architects and other artists, and the uses and purposes of certain spaces and rooms.
