Visiting Position, Department of French

The Department of French invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning in Fall 2015, for an initial one-year appointment.  The position is renewable for one additional year, but is not tenure track.  We seek candidates with expertise in the literature of post-revolutionary France with the ability also to address contemporary topics, which may include one or more of the following: gender studies, feminism, sexuality, environmental issues, history and memory studies, French education, the French political system, Vichy France, or Mai 68. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise with language learning technology and familiarity with current language pedagogies.  The teaching load includes language courses at all levels, as well as intermediate and advanced literature courses. ABD required, Ph.D. preferred at time of application.  Native or near-native fluency is required in French and preferred in English.  Preliminary interviews will be held at the MLA convention in Vancouver.

Please submit, via Interfolio (apply.interfolio.com/27861), a curriculum vitae, a letter of application, a statement of teaching philosophy, sample teaching materials, a 20-page writing sample, and three recent letters of recommendation.  Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2015, and continue until the position is filled.

Connecticut College is a private, highly selective institution with a demonstrated commitment to outstanding faculty teaching and research.  Recognizing that intellectual vitality and diversity are inseparable, the College has embarked on a significantly successful initiative to diversify its faculty, student body and curriculum.  The College seeks creative scholars excited about working in a liberal arts setting, with its strong focus on engaged teaching, participation in shared governance, and active involvement in an institution-wide advancement of diversity.

The full-time visiting faculty teaching load is three courses per semester.  We value the contributions visitors bring to our community and encourage their active engagement with their departments and all aspects of campus life during the course of their appointment.  Visiting faculty are initially participating members of the faculty and voting members in their second and subsequent years; their presence is welcome at all faculty meetings.
