Call for Papers.

The North American Society for Seventeenth-Century French Literature is pleased to announce that its 2011 conference will be held jointly with the Society for Seventeenth-Century French Studies at Queen Mary University of London, England, from 6 to 9 July 2011.

The theme will be 'Lieux de culture', which may be interpreted in any way that prospective contributors wish, so long as it reflects the correlation or interplay between loci (spatial logic) and cultural life, artistic influences and literary innovations. Some suggestions are: Parisian and provincial salons and their activities; the academies; the court, not only that of the king but also those (for example) of Condé at Chantilly, Gaston d'Orléans in Blois, Mademoiselle at Saint-Fargeau, and Philippe d'Orléans at Saint-Cloud; Mécènes (such as Richelieu, Guise, Fouquet); Jesuit colleges; Port-Royal; convents; the bureaux d'adresses of Théophraste Renaudot and his successors; artists' studios; libraries; the boutiques of booksellers and printsellers in Paris and provincial cities; theatrical and musical spaces; the Foires and other open spaces such as the Pont-Neuf; London, Amsterdam, and other foreign cities as loci of French cultural activity.

Proposals, not exceeding 300 words, for papers of 20 minutes' duration should be sent to Professor Henriette Goldwyn, President of NASSCFL (hg3@nyu.edu) or Professor Richard Maber, Secretary of the SSCFS (r.g.maber@durham.ac.uk). Proposals that exceed the limit will be returned to the proposer for amendment before they can be considered. Prospective contributors are advised to work to a deadline of 30 November 2010.
