Tenure-track position in Francophone Studies

The Department of French & Italian at the the University of Kansas has a vacancy for a tenure-track, faculty position expected to begin as early as 18 August 2015. Qualifications: Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in Francophone Studies (or a related discipline) is expected by the start date of appointment. Specialization in Francophone Studies with a primary research emphasis in Francophone literatures and cultures of sub-Saharan Africa, the Maghreb, and/or the Caribbean. The candidate must have a strong record of teaching, and be able to teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of specialization. Significant publications or strong promise of scholarly productivity required, as is a native or near-native command of French. Ability to address the broader scope of Francophonie outside the designated research focus, engagement with the topics of migration and/or diaspora, and an interest in collaborative work with other relevant disciplines are desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to serve on graduate student committees, direct theses and dissertations, fulfill advising responsibilities at the undergraduate and graduate level, and serve on departmental, College, and University committees.  The candidate will also be willing to assist with the direction of study abroad programs in French-speaking countries. Initial review of applications begins 14 November 2014, with preliminary telephone interviews, and continues as long as needed to identify a qualified pool.
