SOCIETY OF DIX-NEUVIEMISTES
REMINDER & REVISED PROGRAMME

The inaugural meeting and conference of the new Society of Dix-Neuviémistes is to be held on the afternoon of 4 July 2001 in Dublin, following the conclusion of the conference of the Society for French Studies. There will be four papers given on the theme "Alterity and Marginality", followed by a meeting to launch the new society and to propose an interim executive.

First session (2:00-3:00), chair to be arranged
- Di Holmes (University of Leeds): "Sex and Shopping, or Rachilde and the naturalist novel"
- Hannah Thompson (Darwin College, Cambridge): "Demarginalising the Perverse: Rachilde and the Erotic Body"
- Discussion

Second session (3:30-4:30), chaired by Larry Schehr
- Caroline Berson (Royal Holloway, University of London): "La 'nouvelle femme' dans la littérature féminine à la Belle Epoque : éducation, marginalité et dissidence"
- Caroline Warman ( De Montfort University, Leicester): "Authorising pederasty: the discourse of 'sexual inversion' in nineteenth-century France"
- Discussion

4:45: General Meeting to inaugurate the Society of Dix-Neuviémistes

Conference fee: £5 or IR£6. To mark this inaugural conference, we are waiving the fee for postgraduates. Please send your cheque to the conference organizer, Nigel Harkness (to whom any queries should be addressed), at: School of Languages, Literatures & Arts, The Queen's University of Belfast, Belfast BT7 1NN, Northern Ireland. Your cheque should be made out to the "Society of Dix-Neuviémistes". If you will be needing extra accommodation for that night, please contact Sarah Capitanio , specifying that you will be attending the SDN conference.
