MEDIATING PERFORMANCE. IFTR (International Federation for Theatre Research) anual conference in Santiago, Chile
La Fédération Internationale pour la Recherche Théâtrale (FIRT/IFTR) est une organisation fondée en 1957 en partenariat avec l’UNESCO, et a pour objet de favoriser la collaboration et l'échange d'informations entre les personnes et les institutions qui s'occupent de recherche en matière de théâtre (www.firt-iftr.org). La Fédération organise tous les ans un Congrès international dans un pays différent. En juillet 2012 le Congrès se tiendra au Chili ! Pour la première fois en Amérique du Sud, cet évènement réunira des centaines de chercheurs, étudiants et doctorants en Arts du Spectacle, ainsi que des artistes et créateurs.
Le Congrès Annuel 2012 est organisé par l’Institut de Théâtre de l'Université Pontificale Catholique du Chili (www.uc.cl), classée parmi les cinq meilleures université du monde en langue espagnole (http://www.uc.cl/artes/).
Le théâtre est une rencontre ainsi qu’un lieu de rencontre, mais ni l'une ni l'autre n’a lieu sans contexte ni se conjugue de façon totalement spontanée. Ce colloque aborde diverses problématiques, remettant au centre du débat les notions de représentation/scène/performance, médias et médiation. Cette conférence traitera la question sur la façon dont les arts du spectacle s’encadrent dans un contexte de changements historiques, culturels et technologiques, et avancera la discussion sur la façon dont ces problématiques sont traitées, résistent ou provoquent ces changements. Les moyens de transmissions, ainsi que les processus de documentation, de recherche, de récupération des traditions et l'interaction avec le public seront également discutés en ce qu’ils sont eux aussi des formes de médiation.
Les deux langues officielles de l'organisation sont l'anglais et le français. Toutes les communications ainsi que les discussions se déroulerant dans une des deux langues.

The International Federation for Theatre Research (FIRT / IFTR) is an organization founded in 1957 and linked to UNESCO, whose mission is to promote collaboration and exchange of information between individuals and organizations dedicated to research and theatre studies (https://www.firt-iftr.org/). This organization promotes a conference every year in different parts of the world and next July 2012 the conference will take place in Chile! For the first time in South America this event will gather hundreds of theatre scholars, Master and Phd students and creators.
Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (www.uc.cl), ranked among the top five universities in the Spanish-speaking World; specifically its Drama School (http://www.uc.cl/artes/), is in charge of the organization of this 2012 Annual Conference.
Theatre is an encounter and a meeting space, but no meeting takes place without context, no approach is completely spontaneous. This Conference addresses multiple issues, challenging the common definitions of performance and media. The idea that the performing arts take place within a framework of changing historical, cultural and technological contexts, and the discussion of how we introduce, resist or provoke these changes will be the main focus of the conference. Ways of transmissions, as well as the processes of documenting, researching, recovering traditions, and interacting with audiences will also be discussed as forms of mediation.
The two official languages of the Organisation are English and French. Therefore, all papers and discussion will be in any of these languages.
