ASSISTANT LECTURER/LECTURER

IN THE DEPARTMENT OF FRENCH STUDIES

(Fulltime, permanent appointment commencing mid-January 2012)

 

The Department of French Studies at Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick is seeking to recruit a full-time permanent Assistant Lecturer/Lecturer in French Studies.

 

The successful candidate will have a PhD in French Studies (or equivalent) and fluency in French and English. He/she must have a strong research, publication and teaching record in the field of 20th Century French Studies as well as a clear research and publication plan for the coming years. He/she must demonstrate a commitment to high-quality teaching at undergraduate level and experience of teaching and/or supervision at postgraduate level. An interest in the field of French cinema and/or visual arts, experience in teaching French language ab initio, expertise in the field of translation studies, use of the latest e-learning technologies or expertise in second language acquisition will all be assets. The successful candidate will also undertake administrative and academic supervisory duties, as directed by the Head of Department.

Candidates must have:

(1)     A PhD in French Studies (or equivalent);

(2)     Fluency in both French and English (written and oral);

(3)     Experience in third-level teaching at undergraduate level and in teaching and/or supervision at postgraduate level in the field of 20th Century French Studies;

(4)     A strong research and publication record and a clearly articulated research and publication plan for the next three years;

(5)     Experience in academic administration;

(6)     Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.

Candidates must clearly indicate in their application how they meet each of these pre-requisites.

 

Additionally, it would be advantageous to candidates to have:

A demonstrated interest in the field of French cinema and/or visual arts; Experience in teaching French language ab initio; Expertise in the field of translation studies; Expertise in the use of the latest e-learning technologies; Expertise in second language acquisition

 

Annual salary scales:        Assistant Lecturer - €46,474 to €76,853 (9 points)**

Lecturer - €50,158 to €81,403 (9 points)

 

**Please note that, in line with Government Policy, a 10% reduction in pay scales must be applied to persons recruited to direct entry (recruitment) grades in the Education Sector with effect from 1st January 2011. This means that the relevant Assistant Lecturer salary scale for new entrants is: €41,826 to €69,167 (9 points)
