Jandl im Dialog
Ernst Jandl, dessen facettenreiches Werk weit über die Grenzen Österreichs hinaus eine ganze Generation von Künstlern geprägt hat, ist 10 Jahre nach seinem Tod nach wie vor eine wesentliche Figur der zeitgenössischen Dichtung. Im deutschsprachigen Raum gibt es immer noch große Begeisterung und Interesse für Werk und Person Jandls. Davon zeugt auch der Erfolg der letzten Ausstellung in Wien und Berlin, „Die Ernst Jandl Show“.
Durch die geplante Tagung soll der Forschung über Jandl neue Impulse gegeben werden, sowohl im Rahmen der französischen Germanistik (in Frankreich ist Jandls Werk wenig bekannt und die Forschung darüber eher begrenzt), als auch in einer transnationalen und komparatistischen Perspektive, die sich vor allem für die zahlreichen Einflüsse interessiert, die Jandls Werk geprägt haben, die es aber wiederum ausgelöst hat.
Dieser interdisziplinäre Ansatz ist umso mehr gerechtfertigt, als Jandls Werk durch Interaktion und Austausch entsteht. Dies spiegeln übrigens auch der Titel der 2004 von Wendelin Schmidt-Dengler, Helmut Neundlinger und Michael Hammerschmid herausgegebenen Textsammlung, Jandl in Gesellschaft, oder das Motto der Ausstellung „Die Ernst Jandl Show“ : „Vielstimmigkeit, Internationalität und Intermedialität“.
Der Titel „Jandl im Dialog“ soll eine Einladung dazu sein, diese zahlreichen Interaktionen und Beziehungen zu erforschen. In dieser Hinsicht bieten sich drei Forschungsschwerpunkte an:
Jandl und seine Zeit:
Es geht hier um die Auseinandersetzung Jandls mit den Autoren seiner Generation, zum einen mit deutschsprachigen Autoren wie Erich Fried, der Wiener Gruppe, Friedericke Mayröcker, den konkreten Dichtern (Gomringer, die Stuttgarter Gruppe, die Prenzlauer Berg Gruppe), zum anderen mit tschechischen Autoren zum Beispiel wie Joseph Hiršal und Bohumila Grögerová oder mit ungarischen Autoren wie István Eörsi.
Diese Auseinandersetzung mit seiner Zeit verweist auch auf die politische und kritische Dimension seines Werks. Auch die Rezeption von Jandls Werk im Ausland, insbesondere in der DDR, in der UdSSR oder auch in den USA und in Großbritannien, und die Resonanz von Jandls Aufenthalten in diesen Ländern können untersucht werden.
Jandl und die Künste
Hier geht es um eine tiefere Untersuchung des Verhältnisses von Jandls Werk zur Musik (Jazz, John Cage, zahlreiche Vertonungen für den Rundfunk) oder zur bildenden Kunst (Fotographie, Zeichnung, Illustrierung der Gedichte Jandls). Auch die Beziehung zu den Medien, die Rolle des Rundfunks in der Performanz experimenteller Texte kann hier diskutiert werden.
Jandl zwischen den Generationen
Es geht hier darum, Jandl in einer nationalen und transnationalen Literaturgeschichte zu situieren, zum einen durch seine Beziehung zur Tradition (Rilke, Goethe), zu Autoren der früheren Generationen, wie Kurt Schwitters, Raoul Hausmann, Hugo Ball u.a und auch zu nicht deutschsprachigen Autoren (Gertrude Stein), zum anderen durch literarische Reaktionen und Referenzen bei späteren Generationen, etwa bei Thomas Kling, Gert Jonke und Yoko Tawada.
Jandl als Übersetzer und Jandls Werk in der Übersetzung
Ein weiteres Diskussionsthema bilden auch die Übersetzungen Jandls, d.h seine Tätigkeit als Übersetzer (Stein, Cage, Middleton, Creeley...) sowie die bis heute erschienenen Übersetzungen seiner Werke (ins Spanische, Englische, Französische, …).
Der Titel der Tagung will für möglichst viele Ansätze offen sein. Dies bedeutet sowohl eine Vertiefung schon bekannter Aspekte, wie die kritische und politische Dimension, als auch die Eröffnung neuer Forschungsfelder. Beiträge über neue, hier nicht genannte Perspektiven, sind ebenfalls willkommen.
Die Tagung wird am 27., 28. und 29. September 2012 in Paris stattfinden.

Jandl en dialogue
Ernst Jandl, dont l’oeuvre plurielle a marqué, au-delà des frontières de l’Autriche, toute une génération de créateurs, demeure, dix ans après sa mort, une figure essentielle de l’histoire récente de la poésie contemporaine. L’engouement pour l’oeuvre et l’intérêt pour le « personnage » sont toujours vivaces dans l’espace germanophone (comme en témoigne le succès de l’exposition Die Ernst Jandl Show à Vienne et à Berlin). Notre rencontre se propose donc de contribuer au développement de la recherche sur Jandl tant dans l’espace de la germanistique française (la diffusion et la recherche sur cet auteur restant limitées en France) que dans une perspective transnationale et comparatiste, qui privilégie l’étude des dialogues multiples dont l’oeuvre de Jandl s’est nourrie et qu’elle a suscités.
Cette approche est d’autant plus justifiée que l’oeuvre même de Jandl se fonde sur une dynamique de l’échange et de l’interaction, comme l’illustrent par exemple le titre du recueil édité en 2004 par Wendelin Schmidt-Dengler, Helmut Neundlinger et Michael Hammerschmid Jandl in Gesellschaft ou encore les mots-clés de l’exposition Die Ernst Jandl Show : « Vielstimmigkeit, Internationalität und Intermedialität ».
Que le titre Jandl en dialogue soit donc perçu comme un appel à explorer ces échanges multiples. Dans cette perspective, nous proposons les trois pistes de recherche suivantes :
Jandl… en dialogue avec son temps :
Ce dialogue peut être conçu comme dialogue avec les auteurs de sa génération, qu’ils soient de langue allemande ou non : Erich Fried, les membres du Groupe de Vienne, Friederike Mayröcker, les poètes concrets (Eugen Gomringer, le Groupe de Stuttgart, le Groupe de Prenzlauerberg), mais aussi, par exemple, les poètes tchèques Joseph Hiršal et Bohumila Grögerová ou des auteurs hongrois comme István Eörsi.
Ce dialogue évoque également la dimension politique et critique de l'oeuvre, ainsi que la réception de Jandl en Allemagne de l’Est, en Russie, mais également aux États-Unis ou en Grande-Bretagne et l’impact des séjours de Jandl dans ces pays.
Jandl…en dialogue avec les arts :
Les recherches s’attacheront à approfondir les relations de l’oeuvre de Jandl avec la musique, (jazz, John Cage, mise en musique de multiples oeuvres notamment pour la radio) ou encore avec les arts plastiques (photographie, dessin, illustrations des poèmes de Jandl). Les discussions pourront également porter sur les liens aux médias et le rôle de la radio sur la lecture des textes expérimentaux conçue comme performance.
Jandl…en dialogue « générationnel » :
Il s’agira ici d’interroger l’inscription dans une histoire littéraire nationale et transnationale, par le biais de son rapport à la tradition (Rilke, Goethe), avec les auteurs de générations antérieures, de langue allemande ou non : Kurt Schwitters, Hugo Ball, Raoul Hausmann, Gertrude Stein, ou encore avec des auteurs de générations postérieures : Thomas Kling, Gert Jonke, Yoko Tawada.
Jandl… et la traduction :
On s’intéressera enfin aux traductions de Jandl, c’est-à-dire tant à sa propre activité de traducteur de l’anglais (Stein, Cage, Middleton, Creeley...) qu’aux diverses traductions de son oeuvre parues à ce jour (en espagnol, en anglais, en français, …).
Le titre de la rencontre se veut ouvert à toute approche, qu’elle approfondisse des aspects déjà abordés, notamment la dimension critique et politique, ou s’aventure sur des terrains encore en friche, mentionnés ici ou non.
Le colloque aura lieu les 27, 28 et 29 septembre 2012 à Paris.

Jandl in dialogue
Ernst Jandl, whose diverse creation has marked, beyond Austria’s borders, a whole generation of artists, remains, ten years after his death, an essential figure in the recent history of contemporary poetry. The passion for the works and the interest for the “persona” are still very vivid in the German-speaking area (as shown by the success of the exhibition Die Ernst Jandl Show in Vienna and in Berlin). Our conference thus aims at participating in the development of research on Jandl both within French Germanistic (as diffusion and studies on this author remain limited in France) and from a transnational and comparatist perspective which favours the analysis of the multiple dialogues that Jandl’s creation built upon and which it fostered.
This approach is all the more justified since Jandl’s creation itself is based upon the dynamics of exchange and interaction, as exemplified, for instance, by the title of the collection published in 2004 by Wendelin Schmidt-Dengler, Helmut Neundliger and Michael Hammerschmid, Jandl in Gesellschaft or the key-words of the exhibition Die Ernst Jandl Show: “Vielstimmigkeit, Internationalität und Itermedialität”.
The heading Jandl in dialogue should therefore be understood as a call to explore these multiple exchanges. From this perspective, we suggest three main topics in the research:
Jandl … in dialogue with his time
This dialogue can be thought of as dialogue with all the writers of his generation, whether German speakers or not: Erich Fried, the members of the Vienna Group, Friederike Mayröcker, the concrete poets (Eugen Gomringer, the Stuggart Group, the Prenzlauerberg group) but also, for example, Czech poets Joseph Hiršal and Bohumila Grögerová oder Hungarian authors like István Eörsi.
This dialogue evokes, too, the political and critical dimension of the works, as well as the way Jandl was welcomed in East Germany and Russia, but also in the US or the UK, and the impact of Jandl’s stays in these countries.
Jandl … in dialogue with the arts
This broad topic should enable to look into the relations between Jandl’s works and music (Jazz, John Cage, the musical adaptation of many works notably for the radio) or with visual arts (photography, drawing, illustrations of Jandl’s poems). The relations to the media and the role of the radio on the performance of the experimental texts should also be discussed here.
Jandl … in generational dialogue
The point here is to see how Jandl’s works fit into a national and transnational history through his relation to tradition (Rilke, Goethe), and writers from previous generations, German-speakers or not: Kurt Schwitters, Hugo Ball, Raoul Hausmann, Gertrude Stein or writers from the next generations: Thomas Kling, Gert Jonke, Yoko Tawada.
Jandl and… the translations
The translations of Jandl should also be dealt with, i.e. his own activity as an English translator (Stein, Cage, Middleton, Creeley...) and the various translations of his works (in Spanish, English, French, …) which have been released so far.
The conference remains open to any approach, either considering more thoroughly aspects already tackled, notably the political and critical dimension, or exploring new territories mentioned or not here.
