COLLOQUE INTERNATIONAL INTERDISCIPLINAIRE
De la Lettre à l'Imaginaire

Inscrit dans les activités du Centre d'Études sur l'Imaginaire Littéraire(CEIL) de l'Université Nouvelle de Lisbonne, le Colloque InternationalInterdisciplinaire De la Lettre àl'Imaginaire, organisé en hommage à Irene Freire-Nunes, se confond avecl'identité et le parcours même de ce Centre de Recherche.
Partant du texte comme lieu privilégié d'une éternelle reconfiguration dumonde, ce colloque invite les chercheurs des différentes branches du savoir às'interroger sur la(les) forme(s) à travers lesquelles la littérature (dans sesdifférentes matrices discursives, historiques et culturellement marquées)réfléchit, crée ou réinvente son complexe rapport au réel inévitablement médiatisépar un imaginaire personnel ou collectif qui s'articule (ou rompt) avec lesparadigmes épistémologiques et cognitifs qui l'imprègne et l'in-forment.
La lettre fait naturellementrésonner la dimension lacanienne du signifiant du langage et du désir qui, danssa propre (in)consistance, organise et déstructure l'architecture formelle et sémantiquede l'oeuvre poétique constamment scandée par non-dits, inter-dits ou contre-dictions discursives (R.Dragonetti) situés aux plus différents niveaux.
Cette attention particulière portée sur la matérialité du signifiant estloin toutefois de se résorber dans une clinique littéraire (J.-Ch. Huchet).Cherchant à cerner, par le biaisd'une véritable archéologie de la variante, l'imaginaire scripturaire d'unauteur ainsi que les contoursmythiques de son oeuvre (critique génétique), ou s'attachant à appréhender/reconstruirela forme perdue d'un texte, d'un sens possible pour le texte en tant que réalitémultiple et protéiforme, lacunaire parfois, mais qui résulte toujours d'unepuissante dynamique créatrice stimulée par le jeu des possibles (éditioncritique), le long et laborieux travail d'édition implique et se trouve, luiaussi, profondément impliqué dans la construction de l'imaginaire, cettemédiation incontournable qui, en dernière instance, gouverne sans cesse, defaçon consciente ou inconsciente, les options de l'auteur, du copiste ou del'éditeur, et dont des implications, incertaines et plus au moins profondes etdécisives du point de vue sémantique, culturel ou idéologique, sont toujoursextrêmement signifiantes.
De la mouvance textuelle(Zumthor) à l'alternance de paradigmes historiques, scientifiques ouherméneutiques que la littérature accueille, déconstruit ou réinvente, nombreuseset diverses sont les voies et les méthodologies qui permettent de circonscrire l'imaginairelittéraire, ce colloque désirant avant tout devenir – à l'image du Centre deRecherche qui l'organise – espace par excellence du croisement et de laconfluence entre différents savoirs et approches.
Dans ce sens, le colloque se propose de questionner l'imaginaire privilégiantles axes de réflexion suivants:

2) Fiction et Imaginaire
3) Imaginaire et discoursdu quotidien

As part of the activities carried out by the Centrefor the Study of the Literary Imaginary (CEIL) located at the New University inLisbon, the International Interdisciplinary Conference From the Letter to the Imaginary, which will be held in homage of Professor Irene Freire Nunes, is inextricablylinked with the identity and trajectory of this research unit.
Positing the text as the ideal arena for anever-ending reconfiguration of the world, this conference invites researchersfrom all disciplines to investigate the way(s) in which literature (in itsmultiple historically and culturally marked discourse frameworks) reflects,creates or reinvents its relationship with reality by mediating it through anindividual or collective imaginary in close kinship with (or dissenting from) theepistemological and cognitive paradigms in-forming it.
The term letter naturallyresonates the Lacanian sense of the signifier of language and desire that, inits own (in)consistency, is able to both organize and de-construct the semanticand structural foundations of the poetical work unceasingly permeated atvarious levels of the non-dits, the inter-dits or the contra-dictions (R. Dragonetti).
The particular emphasis placed upon the materiality ofthe signifier is, nonetheless, by no means confined to the realm ofpsychoanalytic criticism. By seeking to capture, through what could be termedan archaeology of the variant, the author's imaginary as expressed in hiswriting, and the mythical dimension imbued in his work (genetic criticism), orby attempting to apprehend/reconstruct, through successive acts of rewriting,the lost form of a text or its conjectural meaning, the text being conceived asa multifarious and protean reality whose occasional lacunae don't hinder the creativeimpulse underlying the logic of variation (text criticism), the edition process implies and is directly implied bythe shaping of the imaginary. The imaginary is thereby understood as aninescapable mediation that regulates, either consciously or unconsciously, thechoices of the author, the copyist or the editor, resulting in more or less profoundsemantic, cultural or ideological repercussions.
From textual mouvance(P. Zumthor) to the alternation of historical, scientific and hermeneuticparadigms fostered, deconstructed or reinvented by literature, the routes andmethods helping to disclose the imaginary of a work, an author or a period areinnumerable. This conference aspires to be in the image of the research centrethat promotes it the meeting point of several disciplines and approaches.
The conference seeks to look into the imaginary inaccordance with three thematic strands:
1) Imaginary and textedition
2) Fiction and Imaginary
3) Imaginary and quotidiandiscourses

Paper proposals should besubmitted by 19th January 2011 and sent to CEIL's andCoordinator's e-mail addresses (ceil@fcsh.unl.pt;ogmios@univ-ab.pt), and should include anabstract (up to 300 words) and a short CV of the author. The OrganizingCommittee will make public the list of selected papers and the provisionalconference program by 31st January 2011.
