

The National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) eikones, “Iconic Criticism - The Power and Meaning of Images” was founded in 2005 by the Swiss National Science Foundation and the University of Basel.
In October 2009, the interdisciplinary research project will begin its second four-year phase. In this context,
doctoral candidates and postdocs
are invited to apply for
20 new 100% positions (application deadline: 22 May 2009).
Applications are requested from young scholars—postdocs and habilitation candidates as well as PhD students—in the fields history of art, philosophy, literary studies, sociology, media studies, musicology, science studies, information technology, design research and related disciplines. The positions, limited to four years, are ideal for working on doctoral dissertations or habilitations in the research areas listed above. Requirements include an outstanding record of performance as well as preparedness to engage productively and critically with iconic-theoretical questions in interdisciplinary dialogue. In addition to the usual documents, applicants should submit an outline of the proposed research project.
