

The 47th Annual conference of the Society for French Studies will take place at the University of St Andrews from 3-5 July 2006. A full programme and registration materials can be downloaded from the SFS website, www.sfs.ac.uk/conference.htm.
The 2006 programme features panels on a wide variety of topics including: Violence, Confessions, Documentary Aesthetics, Music and Identity, Les Lettres et les Sciences, Genre and Experimentation, France and Scotland, and Transcultural Paris. This year's plenary speakers are:
Siân Reynolds (University of Stirling), 'Paris-Edinburgh 1900'
Jonathan Culler (Cornell University), 'Reading Les Fleurs du Mal Today'
Michèle Le Doeuff (CNRS), 'Une vision moins intimidante du travail philosophique', Un dialogue avec Elizabeth Fallaize (St John's College, Oxford)
Charles Forsdick (University of Liverpool), '"Un spectre oublié": The Afterlives of Toussaint Louverture'
To facilitate travel to the conference, we have arranged coach transfer between Edinburgh airport and St Andrews (departing on Monday 3rd July at 11:30 am, returning Wednesday 5th July to arrive at the airport around 3:30pm).
As in previous years, we are pleased to offer special rates for postgraduate members of the Society wishing to attend the conference. You should use the PG booking form attached to this message . We are also able to provide a number of postgraduate travel awards to help meet the costs of travelling to the conference - forms are available to download from the registration pages of the conference website, and should be returned to the Conference Officer by 5th May.
