CALL FOR PANELS AND ROUNDTABLES

"Eighteenth-Century Speculations"

We invite proposals for Panels and Roundtables for the joint meeting of the Northeast American Society for 18thC Studies (NEASECS) and the Atlantic Society for 18thC Studies (AtSECS), to be held 1-4 November 2001, in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

We welcome submissions from all disciplines on any aspect of the long eighteenth century, though we are especially interested in topics relating to our theme, "Eighteenth-Century Speculations." This theme is meant to encompass all manner of conjecture: intellectual inquiry and doubt, scientific theories and debates, financial enterprise and gambling, the relation of facts and beliefs, and predictions on the future of eighteenth-century studies. Some possible topics are listed at the end of this message.

Please send proposals by 15 January 2001. Proposals should include a title for the session, a short abstract, a mailing address, e-mail address, phone number, and FAX number. You do not have to be a member of NEASECS or AtSECS to submit a proposal. Please send proposals to:
