I will be proposing a special session on “Representations of Individual Heroism in Popular Revolution” for the MLA’s next convention (January 3-6, 2013, Boston).  Presentations may discuss portrayals in history, literature, or cinema, and may treat any revolution or revolt (French or otherwise) that claims to have its roots in the people.  Topics may include, but are not limited to: the hero(ine) as incarnation of the nation, tensions between individual and collective glory, and the impact of hero-worship on the initiative of the common people.  Please email abstracts to Julie Meyers (jmeyers@uchicago.edu) by March 15th.  Please also indicate if you are already a member of the MLA or not.
