NARRATIVE MATTERS


An Interdisciplinary Conference on Narrative Perspectives, Approaches, and Issues Across the Humanities and Social Sciences


Location: St. Thomas University
Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada
Dates: May 16 - 19, 2002


Narrative matters are emerging in many fields as increasingly important to an understanding of human knowing, relating, and experiencing. This conference will provide an interdisciplinary forum for inquiry and conversation among theorists, students, researchers, and practitioners employing narrative perspectives in their life and work.


Papers and presentations are welcomed from a wide range of fields in which narrative ideas inform research and practice. Participants will have a variety of opportunities, formal and informal, to engage in conversation both with keynote speakers and with one another.


We invite you to submit: (a) the title of your presentation; (b) an abstract (max. 250 words); (c) a brief biography for each presenter (max. 150 words, outlining credentials, position, and affiliations); (d) list of recent and relevant publications, if applicable (i.e., academics); and (e) a brief explanation of any unique features of your presentation, to assist in planning. A limited number of abstracts will be accepted, and will appear in the Conference Proceedings. Formats include:

- single paper (20 mins) - report on completed research
- multi-media (20-60 mins) - e.g., story-space, dance, poster
- roundtable (60 mins) - report on research in progress with open discussion
- symposium (60 mins) - group / panel presenting various views on specific topic
- workshop (2-3 hrs) - in-depth, interactive, experiential presn
