Présentation de l'éditeur:

Medieval romance frequently, and perhaps characteristically, capitalises on the dramatic and suggestive possibilities implicit inboundaries - not only the geographical, political and culturalfrontiers that medieval romances imagine and imply, but also moremetaphorical demarcations. It is these boundaries, as they appear ininsular romances circulating in English and French, which the essays inthis volume address. They include the boundary between reality andfictionality; boundaries between different literary traditions, modesand cultures; and boundaries between different kinds of experience orperception, especially the `altered states' associated with sickness, magic, the supernatural, or the divine.
