Rencontres JeunesChercheurs

RENCONTRES JEUNES CHERCHEURS

- 13th edition

June 3-4, 2010

Createdin 1998, the Rencontres Jeunes Chercheurs (RJC) of the Doctoral School «Langage et langues » (ED 268, Sorbonne Nouvelle University – Paris 3) is anopportunity for junior researchers preparing for a Master's degree or aDoctorate, but also for post-doctorates, to present their work in paperor poster sessions.

This year, for the 13thedition of the RJC, the theme will be :

Languagein use

The notion of language in use in linguistics isundoubtedly located at the intersection of what F. de Saussure distinguished byterms Langue and Parole. Since the use of the language represents both the wayspeakers use the language as a means of communication and particular utterancesof various kinds, it is relevant to study language practice of speakers whocome from the same language community.

To this notion ofuse, the notion of norm is frequently associated. It is the norm, commonlyfound in grammar books, that leads to the definition of variation.

The scientists are to ask questions like: What is thelanguage in use of various speakers? Is there a development in the language inuse? What influences the language in use of interlocutors? Is itthe sociocultural environment and political factors? Which are thereal world communicative functions? Which are noticeable interferences betweenthe norm and its variations? How do children acquire language in use?

This topic can betreated differently in various linguistic fields: language acquisition, textanalysis, linguistic methodology, historical linguistics, morpho-syntax,phonetics, semantics, socio-linguistics, etc.
