Current literary theory and criticism underscore both thesingularity and the individual and social uses of literature, thus resonatingwith the recent preoccupation of philosophers and intellectuals engaged in thedefense of the humanities under attack from those who denounce them as outmodedand unproductive.

This issue will invite contributions addressing primarilytheoretical but without excluding historical aspects of the thought processesand models proper to literature. Thinking literature will be examined here notonly as a form of subversion and questioning of the dominant discourse (thatwhich Pierre Macherey termed "literary philosophy" twenty years ago),but also as a laboratory of multiple representational structures andhermeneutical models (affective, cognitive, moral, artistic etc.). The articlesgathered in this issue will therefore follow these axes of reflection:

  • thinking models (literary elaboration of conceptual models, forms of intelligibility and consensus)
  • thinking with/thinking against (partisan and/or polemical literary discourse)
  • literature and historical thought (including literary history)
  • re-thinking the world (utopia/dystopia/heterotopia/paratopia)
  • limits of thought/limits of the text (unreadable/incomprehensible texts)
  • thinking the ordinary (the quotidian, the norm, the insignificant) and the event (the trauma, the scandal, the anomaly)
