INTERNATIONAL BANDE DESSINÉE SOCIETY
SIXTH BI-ANNUAL CONFERENCE
LONDON, 19-20 JUNE 2009

CALL FOR PAPERS

Following the success of the 2007 International Bande Dessinée Society conference, our next meeting, in 2009, will again be held in London. It will take place on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 June 2009 at the Institut Français in South Kensington and at the Institute of Contemporary Arts on the Mall.

The conference will mark the eightieth anniversary of Tintin and the fiftieth of Astérix, both of which occur in 2009, as well as continuing our interdisciplinary commitment to the exploration of innovative and non-mainstream BDs and BD-related forms.

We welcome proposals on all aspects of bande dessinée scholarship, but the following areas will be particularly apt:

• Tintin
• Astérix
• Counter-Currents and Current Directions
• BD and Museology (new Angoulême and Hergé museums will open in 2009)
• BD Before Tintin
• BD and Other Cultures (Manga, Comix…)

Given the general nature of the expected ICA audience, papers should, if possible, be in English and accompanied by appropriate visuals.

Details of practical arrangements will follow in further postings and via the IBDS website (www.arts.gla.ac.uk/ibds).

Abstracts of approximately 250 words, as well as general enquiries, should be addressed to:
