On Saturday 16 March 2002, the University of Bristol will be hosting a colloquium on Honore de Balzac's Scenes de la Vie de province.
The aim ofthis event is to challenge the traditional image of Balzac as a Parisian writer, and to explore diverse aspects of his provincial writings.

The event will include contributions from Professor Diana Knight (University of Nottingham), Dr. Timothy Farrant (Pembroke College, Oxford), Dr. Michael Tilby (Selwyn College, Cambridge), Dr. Owen Heathcote (University of
Bradford), and Dr. Richard Bolster (University of Bristol).
