CALL FOR PAPERS

The Center for Body, Mind, and Culture and the French Program in the Department of Languages, Linguistics, and Comparative Literature at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton Campus seek submissions of abstracts for the 25-27 March 2010 Conference on French Cultures of Embodiment.

The title of this conference conveys a double plurality: First, the diverse styles of embodiment in the plurality of French-speaking cultures that also range far beyond the French territory of Europe, extending into Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Second, the plurality of embodied arts and aesthetic practices in these different French-speaking cultures: dance, music, drama, architecture, fashion, cosmetics, cuisine, but also film, performance, poetry, and other literary genres.  This conference will explore both of these pluralist axes to probe the rich and deeply embodied cultures of Francophonie.

The organizing committee seeks submissions of abstracts with the title of your proposed presentation (250 words). Papers may be presented in English or French. Complete panels will also be considered, but they should include the abstracts and information of all the proposed presentations and presenters.

Please enclose your name, contact information (address, email, website—if you have one, and telephone number), your title, and academic affiliation. DEADLINE: 2 November 2009.

Send your e-submissions to Richard Shusterman at the following address: bodymindculture@fau.edu.
