The  Higher Institute of Applied Studies to Humanities in  Sbeitla and the Laboratory on Approaches to Discourse Jointly organize

a Study Day on

Digital Humanities

19th-04-2018

‘Digital humanities’ is an academic field concerned with the application of computational tools and methods to traditional humanities disciplines such as literature, history, and philosophy.[1] Thus DH lies in the intersection of computational methods and humanities (with all its disciplines). It is indeed taught since 1990’s in both under and postgraduate studies. Diverse community of experts (librarians, students, teachers, researchers, writers) need to rethink and formulate the lines of the humanities  in light of xml, GIS, mpeg … Accordingly digitization –intentionally—reprocesses texts into digital representation .

We live in an era in which digital humanities “asks what it means to be a human being in the networked information age and to participate in fluid communities of practice, asking and answering research questions that cannot be reduced to a single genre, medium, discipline, or institution”[2]. DH not only explores but also interprets text based disciplines in light of the ‘new’ screen culture (computers, tablets...) ; and thus writing becomes designing  while writers are the visual designers. Consequently this study day on ‘Digital Humanities’ aims to explore the past , present and future of the field as we move from the generation of printed books to digital books to a digitally based and oriented academia. We seek contributions to different hermeneutics, use and impact of digital Humanities. Participants are encouraged to send 250-word abstracts to the following address: computationalarts2018@gmail.com .They can cover, but are not limited to the following themes.
