Call for Papers

ABCJournal, the Journal of the Academic AnglophoneSociety of Romania, is now accepting submissions for its December 2010 issue, an open-theme edition featuring our usualselection of critical-creative multidisciplinary work. We invite provocativecontributions in the form of articles, essays, interviews, book reviews,conference presentations and project outlines that seek to take Anglophonestudies to a new level of enquiry across disciplinary boundaries.

In our upcoming issue, we aim to feature a wider selection of newwriting in English and place stronger emphasis on unconventional insights intothe practice and theory of Creative Writing. ABC's new feature, theacademic diary, presenting reflections on the cultures of the academia asexperienced by the visiting lecturer and the global conference goer offers analternative genre for the distilling and recording of developments of thesubject.

American,British and Canadian Studies appears biannually in Juneand December. It is a peer-reviewed journal that setsout to explore the intersections of culture, technology and the human sciencesin the age of electronic information. It publishes work by scholars ofany nationality on Anglophone Studies, ComparativeLiterary and Cultural Studies, Postcolonial Theory, Social and PoliticalScience, Anthropology, Area Studies, Multimedia and Digital Arts and relatedsubjects. Articles addressing influential crosscurrents in current academicthinking are particularly welcomed. ABCalso publishes book reviews and review essays, interviews, work-in-progress,conference reports, research projects outlines, notes and comments, and,annually, a list of theses on topics related to Anglophone Studies completed atRomanian Universities. To maintain an ongoing dialogue with our readers,we alternate commissioned themed issues, where papers are actively commissionedby the special issue editor, with issues featuring unsolicited submissions thataddress themes of immediate interest to us.

Decisions onarticles submitted are normally made within two months and acceptedcontributions published within three months. Callsfor papers inviting submissions to the non-commissioned issues are announcedvia the journal's web pages and in the journal itself. Our primary goal is tobring together in trans-cultural dialogue scholars conducting advanced researchin the theoretical humanities. As well as offering innovative approaches toinfluential crosscurrents in current thinking, the journal seeks to contributefresh angles to the academic subject of English and promote groundbreakingresearch across conventional boundaries. Within the proposed range ofdiversity, our major scope is to provide close examinations and lucid analysesof the role and future of the academic institutions at the cutting edge ofhigh-tech. To respond to the increasing demands of ‘acceleration' in thetwenty-first century, an electronic edition of the journal is now being madeavailable, offering full access to subscribers, and free access to the tablesof contents, abstracts and reviews to non-subscribers. Articles published in ABC are abstracted and indexed on thejournal's website. Detailed guidelines for submission are given on thejournal's website http://abcjournal.ulbsibiu.ro/.Contributions can include: articles, in-depth interviews with both establishedand emerging thinkers and writers, notes on groundbreaking research, andreviews of recently published fiction and critical works. Tables ofcontents and sample full text articles can be viewed without a subscription andour search feature is publicly available.

Guidelinesfor Contributors

ABC seeks quality submissions of work in the entire spectrum of the humanities. The reviewprocess is blind: articles are sent out to subject specialists forreviewing anonymously and we leave it up to the reviewers to choose whether ornot to reveal themselves to you. You are stronglyencouraged to submit exciting and broad-ranging original articles that have notbeen published elsewhere, nor are currently under review in any other refereedjournal. We regret we are unable toaccept multiple submissions. You may submit papers that have been presentedin conferences only if the papers have been thoroughly revised or extended toengage a theme that fits the ABCprofile. A chief objective of the journal is to minimise the time for paperprocessing and to expedite printing; therefore, electronic submission of papersin final form is strongly recommended. Please email your contribution to abc.journal@ulbsibiu.ro before the closing date. Alternatively, manuscripts should be sent intriplicate to the Editorial Office as hard copy and on CD Rom. Submit three copies of your double-spaced, single-sided manuscript,along with the originals of illustrations, drawings, and tables. The first pageof the manuscript should carry the title, names of authors, institutionalaffiliations, a brief but detailed 200-word abstract, and ten keywords/concepts. The normal word-limit for articles is 7500words including notes. Please include a brief 200-word biography for our Notes onContributors along with contactinformation. Only the materials styled according to the latest (7th) edition of theMLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers will be considered for publication.For detailed instructions for preparing your contribution and a sense offormat, topics of interest to us and targeted audience, you may wish to consult the journal's previous issues and style files at http://abcjournal.ulbsibiu.ro.Only articles styled in compliance withthe Submission Guidelines posted on the journal websites will be considered.Please emailus if you have any queries. Deadlinesfor Submissions: ABC is publishedbiannually in December and June. The deadlines for submission of contributionsare September 15 for the winter edition(expected publication: December 15)and March 15 for the summer edition(expected publication: June 15).

Special Issues


Suggestions for special issues are welcome. To propose a special issue, atwo-page proposal should be submitted to Adriana Neagu, Advisory Editor,containing the following information: title; purpose; scope; a list ofprospective contributors; time-table (submission and review deadlines, intendedpublication date); and guest editor's address, phone, fax, and e-mail address.Once approved, the guest editor will be fully responsible for the special issueand should follow the normal review procedure of this journal. Simple proposalsof theme(s) without guest-editing commitment are also welcome and will be givendue consideration. Please attach these to your contributions and email to adriananeagu@lett.ubbcluj.ro.
