Session #1: Intersectionality in French and Francophone Studies
Submissions are being accepted for research that takes an intersectional approach to work in French and Francophone Studies. Coined by U.S. scholar Kimberlé Krenshaw in the late 1980s, the term “intersectionality” revealed overlapping forms of domination and laid ground for new critical perspectives, activism, and solidarities. This panel seeks broadly to explore the relevance of intersectionality for humanities-based research and teaching in French and Francophone Studies. Areas of inquiry may include, but are not limited to: women’s cultural production; theories of race, racism, and whiteness; feminisms; activism; economic and class privilege; masculinities; and queer theory. Genres may include literature, cinema, TV, and media. Conference papers will be limited to 20 minutes (8-9 double-spaced pages). Please send your 250-word abstract in French or English, including presenter’s academic affiliation, contact information and A/V requirements to Greta Bliss (email@example.com) and Michelle Scatton-Tessier (firstname.lastname@example.org) no later than March 30, 2017.
