Assistant professor, tenure-track, Francophone literature of the Americas. The Department of French at the University of Virginia seeks an excellent teacher of French language and literature who is also an innovative scholar in the field of francophone literature of the Americas. The successful candidate will have native or native-like proficiency in French, will have demonstrated success in teaching in French at the college level, and will show promise of participating in all aspects of the Department's activity through innovative projects and constructive collaboration with colleagues. The person to be appointed must be qualified to teach courses on the francophone literatures and cultures of the Caribbean, Québec, and other French-speaking regions of the Americas as well as introductory courses to literature in French, French composition, and advanced French language. We seek to welcome a candidate who will contribute energetically to the University of Virginia's New World Studies program and whose research interests will complement existing French faculty strengths and possibly those in Comparative Literature, Spanish, English, History or Studies in Women and Gender. The candidate is expected to have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in French, Comparative Literature, or similar literary discipline by August 25, 2008.
