The Department of French & Italian at Miami University invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) of French with expertise in any period(s) from the 17th through 21st centuries. Successful candidates will demonstrate promise for outstanding scholarship and teaching in literature and culture and will be prepared to develop a broad and innovative range of courses at all levels of the curriculum.  We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in multiple fields or disciplines such as philosophy, visual and media studies, science, medicine, literary and cultural theory, material culture, non-Metropolitan cultures and literatures, and Jewish Studies.  Contract begins in August 2014.  The successful candidate will have the Ph.D. or equivalent in hand by August 2014; possess native or near-native fluency in French and English; teach undergraduate and M.A.-level courses; advise students; maintain an active research program; and provide service to the University and profession.
