Assistant Professor - Contractually Limited Term (Professoriate) - French Didactics (Teaching and Learning) - University of Toronto, Canada

 

The Department of French at the University of Toronto invites applications for a one year contractually limited term appointment in French Didactics (Teaching & Learning) at the rank of Assistant Professor.  The expected start date of the appointment is September 1, 2016, ending on August 31, 2017.

The successful candidate must be a native or near native speaker of French, be able to work in an English-speaking environment, and hold a PhD at the time of appointment or shortly thereafter in French Studies with a specialization in Didactics (Teaching & Learning) or a PhD in Applied Linguistics or Second Language Acquisition. Duties include teaching undergraduate courses in second language education, second language teaching methodology, teaching French in context, and young people's literature. The successful candidate will also coordinate FSL courses and tutorials and train and supervise teaching assistants. Salary to be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department is seeking applicants with a specialization in any area of French Teaching & Learning but preference will be given to those able to teach courses in the areas mentioned above. The successful candidate must show evidence of excellence in research and in teaching French as a Second Language at the university level, strong knowledge of the fields mentioned above, and have excellent organizational and communication skills.  An established or emerging record of scholarly accomplishment as evidenced by refereed publications, conference presentations, and grants and awards is required.

1. a cover letter of no more than two single-spaced pages;
2. a curriculum vitae;
3. a teaching dossier containing a list of courses taught, course syllabi, teaching evaluations, and the detailed description of a possible course in the Teaching & Learning of French intended for fourth-year undergraduate majors;
4. a sample of published work; and
5. the names and email addresses of three referees.

Applicants should also arrange to have three letters of reference sent directly by the referee to marjorie.rolando@utoronto.ca . At least one of these three letters must address directly the candidate's teaching ability.
