Youth Cultures in Post-War France
Conference to be held at Heriot Watt University Edinburgh
Friday 9 September 2005

We are delighted to invite proposals (300 words) for papers for the first
in a series of one-day conferences on Youth Cultures in Post-War France,
intended to provide a new forum for established researchers and
postgraduate students working in this significant yet relatively
underdeveloped field. The initial conference will be broad in scope,
encompassing a variety of disciplines and specializations. Suggested areas
of enquiry include:

Representations of youth in the mass media, popular music, cinema,
literary texts, bande dessinée

Mainstream and Alternative Cultures; Transgression; Moral Panics;
Delinquency; Blousons noirs, Loubards, and other marginal subcultures;
Political and social movements

Youth and other related identities - ethnicity, class, gender,
sexuality, region, language, religion, generation, memory, community

Production and Marketing Strategies; Technological Developments

Consumption; Spectatorship; Taste cultures; Corporeal Practices; Dance
Cultures; Discophilia; Fashion and Clothing; Fandom, Icons and Teen Idols

Regulatory Practices; Cultural and Educational Policies

The deadline for reception of abstracts is Friday 29 April 2005.

It is expected that papers will last a maximum of 20 minutes to allow
ample time for discussion. Please e-mail abstracts or requests for further
