Marshal Foch Professor of French Literature

Start date: 1 October 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The Marshal Foch Professor of French literature shall undertake teaching and research in the field of French and/or Francophone literature, broadly conceived.
This prestigious Chair was established in 1919. Recent holders have been Professor M.H.T. Sheringham, Professor M. M. Bowie and Professor J.Y. Tadié.
The Professor will play a major role in sustaining and promoting research in French within the Faculty, and a leading part in the guidance, supervision, encouragement and examining of graduate students. She or he will be expected to create and maintain contacts with colleagues in departments of French in other universities in the UK and overseas and with colleagues in other departments in Oxford.
The appointee will possess a doctorate in an area related to French and/or Francophone Literature, broadly conceived; native or near-native spoken and written French and English; a world-leading research and publications record in French and/or Francophone Literature, broadly conceived; the ability to provide academic and research leadership and support to students and colleagues in a wide range of French studies; excellent teaching skills and experience of a range of undergraduate and graduate teaching and supervision in French studies.
