20th/21st Century French Studies Colloquium

March 27-30, 2003

"Cultural Capital:  Canons, Cultures and Contexts"

Session:

Shot from the Canon:  The Implications of Translation

Does translation mean a text has been accepted as a part of the canon?  Can translation cause a text to become a part of the canon?  Is one teaching the canon when one teaches in translation?  Can a work be a part of the canon in another language without being one in its own?

I invite 250 word abstracts (by email to dmcornelio@earthlink.net) by August 1, 2002 that explore any of these or any other questions that examine the relationship between the canon and translation.
