International conference

“Re-Writing Literature”

14th – 16th April 2014, in Łódź

The Department of Literary Theory in Institute of Contemporary Culture of Lodz University has the pleasure to invite you to the international conference “Re-Writing Literature”. The Conference is scheduled for 14th – 16th April 2014, in Łódź.

The main issue of our conference is a special embodiment of literary re-cycling – creative parasitism on others’ texts (not only literary ones): re-narrations, re-plots, re-convecionalizations, amplifications, re-interpretations -- forms of  apocrypha, pastiche, parody. We are particularly focused on displaying cultural and/or existential meaning of intentional practices of that kind. We are specially interested in such cases in which meaning is articulated through the agency of relations among texts and individual experience and cultural reality within which those texts are written and read.

We expects papers to take up topics concerning:

  • a source, history and evolution of contemporary shape of forms and poetics of these kinds of literary practices
  • reasons for their incessant productivity
  • type and cultural status of the texts which have been exposed to such procedures most frequently
  • cultural circulations and the sphere of their replacements (e.g. the case of co called fan-ficion (fanfics), proposals of a new terminology – cover story, remix, prequel, sequel )

We are also interested in case studies of re-writing in Polish and foreign literature.

Your applications for the conference should be sent until 15th of January 2014 (with abstracts contained max. 500 words). Our email: literaturaprzepisana@gmail.com .

All information on the conference agenda, fees, terms, conditions of participation and information on planned publication you will find the file "Organizational information".

The lectures will be given in Polish and English.
