Tenure-track assistant professor of Arabic & Islamic Studies (specialty in Francophone Studies desirable): University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY, USA

Applications are invited for a tenure-track position as assistant professor of Arabic & Islamic Studies to begin August 2015.  The successful applicant’s tenure home will be in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, Literatures & Cultures, a dynamic academic unit committed to interdisciplinary collaboration and dialogue among faculty with diverse geographical interests, theoretical concerns, and methodological approaches.  Applicants should hold a Ph.D. (or be ABD) in Arabic Language and Literature.  Responsibilities of the position include pursuing an active research program in Arab culture, literature and/or film (we are open in terms of time period).  Arab diaspora studies, expertise in the Francophone world, and/or cross-cultural interactions are desirable.  A demonstrated record of excellence in teaching language is required. The successful candidate will, like all department faculty members, be expected to regularly contribute to the department’s core and cross-disciplinary curriculum; the teaching load is 2/2. Other qualifications include successful experience in teaching Arabic, a robust research program, and native or near-native fluency in English and Arabic.  A competitive salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Only electronic applications will be accepted.
