DESCRIPTION :

The Department of French and the Department of First Nations Studies invite applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting July 1, 2020. The position will be a joint appointment (50% French/50% First Nations Studies) with an administrative home in French. Specific areas of focus in scholarship may include but are not limited to: Canadian Indigenous literatures in French, French Curriculum Writing. 

Ideal candidates will show promise in research in the area of Indigenous literatures in French. They will have teaching and/or practical experience in Indigenous issues in the Canadian context and extensive knowledge of historic and contemporary Indigenous issues. They will bring relevant teaching methods to teaching lower and upper-level undergraduate courses and graduate courses in the Department of French as well as First Nations Studies lower and upper-level undergraduate courses. Our preference will be for candidates with strong Indigenous cultural knowledge, experience working with First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, and a background in establishing and maintaining trusting relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations. In the Department of French, the language of instruction is normally French; in the Department of First Nations, the language of instruction is English.

Applicants should have a PhD by the time of appointment. Applications should include: a cover letter addressing qualifications as stated here, a curriculum vitae, research statement, and statement of teaching philosophy. Three letters of reference should be sent under separate cover.
